Associate Director for Inclusive Excellence Programming

The Associate Director for Inclusive Excellence Programming is a full-time, 12-month position, in-person position which reports to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Gates Center.  

 

The successful candidate for the position should be able to collaborate and communicate effectively with various stakeholders on campus, including faculty, staff, students to develop and implement programming related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). They will provide individual and group support for students with marginalized identities including but not limited to Black, Indigenous and People of Color, first generation, LGBTQ, undocumented, and international students. 

 

Responsibilities 

Event Planning/Management 

  • Plan and implement student programming and events that focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) through strong partnerships across campus with faculty, staff, and students.  
  • Plan and implement DEIB campus events that celebrate diversity and foster cross-cultural understanding including (but not limited to) Global Fest, MLK Day Celebration, Lavender Lunch, and Senior Celebration. 
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Campus-wide events including Orientation, Homecoming, Week of Welcome, and Winter Gala. 
  • Partner with student groups, Campus Life, Academic Affairs, and other campus departments to develop programming. 

Student Support & Educational Programming 

  • Provide training, guidance, and program planning support to empowerment groups (affinity groups supporting marginalized students) and other student organization group members. 
  • Design and deliver engaging and impactful DEIB training to students and student organizations. 

New Student Welcome Experience 

  • Assist in planning and implementing any pre-orientation program. 
  • Work closely with the pre-orientation peer leader program, including selecting, training, and supervising peer leaders. 

Student Support 

  • Provide individual and group support. 
  • Assist in conflict resolution and mediation where needed. 

Assessment  

  • Work with Gates Center staff to assess programs and initiatives to evaluate their effectiveness and impact, using data to inform continuous improvement of program efforts. 

Other Duties 

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Gates Center-sponsored events. 
  • Serve as Gates Center representative on campus committees. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Master’s degree in related area (higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, social work, etc.) preferred. 
  • At least three years of related experience required. 
  • Experience leading and managing DEIB initiatives, preferably in a college or university setting. 
  • Experience developing and conducting ongoing DEIB training programs. 
  • Experience in working with students and student organizations in a college or university setting preferred. 
  • Ability to build relationships across campus. 
  • Experience in mediation and conflict resolution. 
  • Strong facilitation skills.
